Berkshire Hathaway buys Iconic Dallas Firm Ebby Halliday Companies

May 25, 2018 8:08:45 AM

Earlier this week, officials announced Ebby Halliday, a Dallas, Texas-based company, agreed to be acquired by HomeServices of America Inc., an affiliate company owned by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc.

Included in the purchase will be all Ebby Halliday brands—Ebby Halliday, REALTORS®, Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate, and Williams Trew Real Estate. Also included are the firm’s mortgage and title companies.

"It is no surprise that HomeServices acquired this fine firm.  Long the dominant residential firm in the Dallas Ft Worth area, Ebby Halliday has tremendous market share and has been the top independent brokerage in Texas for many many years.  The firm is an excellent fit for HomeServices and the firm it already owns in the market, Allie Beth Allman.  This will strengthen the HomeServices presence in the Dallas area and likely provide some synergies between these two HomeServices companies.  HomeServices continues to grow its wholly owned brokerage business and with this acquisition, likely will pass Realogy's NRT unit to become the largest wholly owned brokerage unit in the U.S at year's end.  With NRT slowing their own acquisition pace we won't know this for certain until the year is over. She turned a one-woman residential real estate office into one of the country's largest residential real estate companies, Ebby Halliday, REALTORS® today sits at #17 by sides on The REAL Trends 500, a report that ranks the 500 largest residential brokerage firms in the U.S. and sits in the top two in the Dallas metropolitan area according to the REAL Trends Market Leaders report.

According to their press release, “The Ebby Halliday portfolio of companies brands will continue to operate under their current brand names."

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
