Nick Bailey is the president and CEO of RE/MAX. He is also a speaker at Gathering of Eagles 2023. During Gathering of Eagles, Bailey will share his opinions on the technology real estate needs — and should leave behind — during “CEO Playbook: Rethinking an in-house tech platform.”

RealTrends: Why are you excited to speak at Gathering of Eagles 2023?
Nick Bailey: Year after year, Gathering of Eagles is a premier opportunity to connect with some of the most innovative leaders in the real estate industry. I’m looking forward to sharing some of the RE/MAX strategies that have worked so well for us. Exchanging great ideas is one of my favorite aspects of the real estate industry — and it’s the core activity at this event.
RT: What is the benefit of attending conferences? And, how do you typically make the most of your conference experience?
NB: Conferences are an essential part of personal and professional development. Events like Gathering of Eagles give you the chance to hear from experts in the field and gain new perspectives on industry trends and innovations. They keep you up-to-date with the latest industry technology and best practices. And they help you build relationships that can pay big dividends later. In this business, you should always gather with people and learn from each other.
RT: You’re hosting a CEO Playbook, “Rethinking an in-house tech platform.” Based on your own experiences, what are the must-haves for a real estate company’s technology platform?
NB: The best tech is the tech agents will actually use. So the only “must-have” feature is one that provides solutions that (1) work well for them and (2) don’t break their budget. In the evolution of RE/MAX technology, we’ve found a sweet spot. We’re working with Inside Real Estate to refine a full spectrum of tools and resources for RE/MAX agents — with everything aimed at helping them save time, save money and close more sales. It’s all theirs at no additional cost — and the initial excitement has been off the charts.
RT: What is the one takeaway that you hope attendees learn about proprietary technology?
NB: In today’s landscape, emerging technology is virtually impossible to ignore. The growth of technology use in this space is inevitable, so it is up to agents to adjust and learn how to use all of these new tools to their advantage. Whether you build it, buy it or partner with it, make sure your tech products are intentionally focused on improving the human experience – on both the agent and consumer parts of the transaction.
RT: Anything else you’d like to add?
NB: I’m eager to speak with fellow industry leaders and gain insight into their perspectives and strategies.
