Florida real estate leader on preparing the brokerage for tomorrow’s market

Today’s RealTrending podcast features Casey Bryan, president of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Florida Properties Group with over 900 agents in Tampa, Florida and surrounding areas. Bryan was also named a RealTrends Emerging Leader, an award for leaders under the age of 45 who are making an impact in the real estate industry.

Bryan joined the company, founded by Dewey Mitchell and Allen Crumbley, and learned quite a few lessons transitioning into leadership with the pair.

She talks about that transition with RealTrends’ Editorial Director Tracey Velt, as well as how the brokerage is preparing for tomorrow’s market and how they are shifting their focus to new lines of revenue and agent training.

Here is a small preview of today’s interview with Bryan. The transcript below has been lightly edited for length and clarity:

Tracey Velt: What are you doing as far as agent mindset? What are your market presidents doing to really help these agents understand that there are things they can do, and there are opportunities that they can come away with if they have the right mindset and they practice the right skills?

Casey Bryan: The first thing that we do is remind them that not every real estate licensee that’s licensed today will be licensed in a year; there will be many that choose to exit the industry. Even though we’re getting back to a more normalized unit count across the country, that’s divided between a whole lot of real estate agents right now. As those units tick down, the number of agents and the agents that are willing to work the market are going to be the ones that succeed.

We have an agent in one of our offices, she has been licensed for six months. One of our market presidents made the statement about how many for sale by owners are still trying to sell and not having success and how that’s a great opportunity for anybody who’s willing to truly work them. She’s been licensed for six months and has eight listings all for sale by owners. So I think that there are opportunities at every corner if people are willing to set their mindset aside and really just go after it.
