Realty Goes ‘Over the Edge’ to Raise Money for Brain Cancer Research

For the third year in a row, the Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty Team of “Edgers” rappelled down one of the tallest buildings in San Diego to support funding to find a cure for brain cancer.

As the largest team participating in 2018 Over the Edge for Brain Cancer Event, the Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty team, raised $58,000 this year, bringing the total amount raised by the team, over the past three years, to $148,000.

Over the Edge for Brain Cancer is a unique and exciting opportunity in which participants rappel 365 feet down the Manchester Grand Hyatt. Edgers must raise a minimum of $1,500 to participate. All event proceeds benefit San Diego-based brain cancer research projects through the Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure (ABC²) organization.

“Brain cancer does not discriminate, it is a disease that affects so many people from young children through seniors,” says Games. “Since starting our fundraising effort with “Over the Edge” we have heard so many stories from our families, friends, and peers that have been impacted and we are proud that our team has been able to make a difference by supporting these important research projects to find a cure.”

The Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty Rappel team has been spearheaded by Karen Hickman, veteran Rappeller and Realtor in the company’s La Jolla office. Hickman, who was #1 individual fundraiser for the event this year, was inspired to raise awareness and money for brain cancer research after being personally touched by the devastating disease.

“I’ve had several friends pass away suddenly after being diagnosed currently there is only a 36% survival rate, and now it’s leading cancer in children,” says Hickman. “I am very excited to have so many of our agents commit to participating and fundraising — together are making a huge impact.”

The Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty Team of Rappellers this year included: Karen Hickman, Tim Kirk, Michael Bianchi, Juliana Brutoco Bianchi, Scott Aurich, Tricia O’Brien, Chris Logan, Lupe Soto, Hollyann Holmes, Michael Bianchi, Jennifer Barnhart, Kelly Gorman, Val Peterson, Darcy Delano Smith, Jimmy Glenn, Bob Braun, Perry Price, Jana Farella and Patrick Galvin.

They were supported by numerous agents, family, and friends who donated as well as came to cheer the team on during the event. “It was an absolute privilege for my wife Juliana and I to represent the Pacific Sotheby’s Realty team in this year’s Over the Edge event,” said Micheal Bianchi, South Orange County Regional Manager for Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty. “We cherished the opportunity to support our family members, friends and all those who have been afflicted with this terrible disease.”
