Former United States President Lyndon B. Johnson’s Texas Hill Country Ranch Lists for $2.8 Million

The one-time Texas Hill Country property of former United States President Lyndon B. Johnson has listed for $2.8 million. Located on 142 acres near Johnson City, family namesake of the former president, the property is the former home of Italian artist Benini, renowned for his paintings and sculptures. DMTX Realty, a sales team affiliated with Coldwell Banker United, REALTORS®, represent the property at 377 Shiloh Road. See photos of the estate.

Lyndon B. Johnson

According to Blanco County deed records, the property was purchased by Johnson one week into his presidency in 1963 and remained in his ownership until 1971. Johnson used the secluded property as a private retreat. The main three-bedroom, two-bathroom house that stands today is built on the foundation of Johnson’s former home, with his bedroom and bathroom preserved. A second dwelling on the estate, a one-bedroom, one-bathroom cottage, was used for accommodations for the Secret Service.

In 1999, Benini and his wife Lorraine Benini purchased the property, which was part of the original 800 acres Johnson once owned. The Beninis transformed a 12,000-square-foot hanger on the property into art galleries and an educational venue, and for 15 years it was known as The Sculpture Ranch with 2,000-3,000 visitors each month.

QUOTES:

“Aside from the incredible history behind the ranch, the property is in a prime location with beautiful surroundings. It offers the perfect retreat, while still only 20 minutes to Fredericksburg, less than an hour from Austin and in the heart of the vineyard region. This is a true Texas Hill Country treasure.”

Dave Murray, DMTX Realty team lead

“We responded to the beauty and high energy of the landscape, the feeling of living on top of the world – as well as the easy access to Austin and San Antonio international airports.”

Lorraine Benini, current property owner

DOJ needs to honor agreement with NAR

NAR President Charlie Oppler writes: You should be able to count on the DOJ to honor an agreement. And yet, in a complete breach of commitment and legal precedent, the DOJ backed out of an agreement with the National Association of Realtors (NAR) that would more explicitly state the spirit and intent of NAR’s Code of Ethics and MLS guidelines in some key areas.
