Beginning December 27th, 2019, a team of four volunteer climbers will attempt to reach the summit of Mount Aconcagua in Argentina. With an elevation of 22,837 feet, Aconcagua is the highest mountain outside of Asia, and is one of the so-called \u201cSeven Summits\u201d of the seven continents. It is also one of the tallest climbs without the use of oxygen. The climbers hope to raise over $10,000 to benefit St. Jude Children\u2019s Research Hospital.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The mission of St. Jude Children\u2019s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago. Unlike any other hospital, the majority of St. Jude\u2019s funding comes from individual contributions and fundraising events like the Climb for Kids.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-60549 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.realtrends.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/01\/A1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"715\" height=\"536\"><\/p>\n<p>Steve DuBrueler has participated in most of the previous Climbs for Kids and is excited about meeting the challenge again this year. The climbers prepare for this physically demanding expedition over several months, training for many hours each week. In previous years, the climbers have endured extremely treacherous terrain, high winds, and dangerous blizzard conditions throughout their ascents. DuBrueler and his teams have successfully summited over a dozen mountains and helped raise approximately a half-million dollars for numerous children&#8217;s charities. \u201cMountaineering has many parallels to life: trust, struggles, fear, desire, accomplishment, and fortitude; all of which the St. Jude kids and their families live through every day,&#8221; says DuBrueler. \u201cThis is an excellent opportunity to pay it forward and lend a hand to a worthy cause.\u201d Steve finds mountaineering a great outlet for his passion for helping others, always remembering that these cold and risky climbs have a warm and safe purpose.<\/p>\n<p>Between now and mid-January, DuBrueler will be raising funds to support the event.
