{"id":2617,"date":"2021-11-11T20:16:25","date_gmt":"2021-11-11T20:16:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.realtrends.com\/blog\/2021\/11\/11\/real-estate-culture-building-template-for-virtual-teams-agents\/"},"modified":"2025-03-13T02:39:30","modified_gmt":"2025-03-13T02:39:30","slug":"real-estate-culture-building-template-for-virtual-teams-agents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.realtrends.com\/blog\/2021\/11\/11\/real-estate-culture-building-template-for-virtual-teams-agents\/","title":{"rendered":"Real estate culture-building template for  virtual teams, agents"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Culture is a word for the \u201cway of life\u201d of groups of people, meaning the \u201cway we do things.\u201d\u00a0Real estate culture is represented in our language, values, traditions, relationships, goals, beliefs, and behaviors.\u00a0What happens when the \u201cway we do things\u201d changes with remote working?\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The morning commute is now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realtrends.com\/blog\/4-biggest-challenges-of-working-remotely-and-13-strategies-to-overcome-them\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">down the hall at home<\/a> rather than to the office.\u00a0Team members are now alone, isolated from their tribe.\u00a0As a brokerage or team leader, how do you maintain the culture \u2013 the language, values, traditions, relationships, goals, beliefs, and behaviors in this environment?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A recently published research report by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sethmattison.com\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Seth Mattison<\/a>, Founder of FutureSight Labs, and <a href=\"https:\/\/valuegraphics.com\/who-we-are\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">David Allison<\/a>, Founder of Valuegraphics and author of <em>&#8220;<\/em>We Are All the Same Age Now,&#8221; offers a template for leaders wanting to maintain connection and culture in a world of remote work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the pandemic, 67% of employees were working from home at least part time, and 44% full time.\u00a0 Going forward, 74% of employers plan to keep at least some of their workers remote.\u00a0As a result, the \u201cway we do things\u201d has changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When physically working together is no longer an option, having the ability to influence, communicate, and create shared visions across digital landscapes becomes an indispensable skill. Here\u2019s a template:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-we-value-determines-what-we-do\"><strong>What we value determines what we do.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If we know what people value, we can influence their behavior.\u00a0Responses from a half-million surveys mapping 436 metrics on what people value provides three themes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Relationships.\u00a0<\/strong>Employees are now feeling isolated and starved for connection with others. Your response:\u00a0Leverage both digital and analog solutions to reaffirm your real estate culture.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Set aside five minutes at the start of video meetings for open dialogue and connection.<\/li><li>Amplify your personal notes, phone calls, and face to face interaction. A CEO of a large real estate company has committed to 10 phone calls or personal notes a day to his people.\u00a0He calls them his \u201cdaily deposits\u201d into his relationships.<\/li><li>Create events that encourage your people to connect.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>2. <strong>Improving + Ownership = Security. <\/strong>The margins between these values are so small it\u2019s best to think of them altogether as a trifecta of values.\u00a0In other words, being better every day, holding oneself accountable, and feeling financially secure are all equally important and deeply valued.\u00a0Your response:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Tie financial security to clearly defined expectations.<\/li><li>Define what success looks like and show them the activities (a road map) to get there.<\/li><li>Let them know, \u201cYou got this!\u00a0 If you need help, I\u2019ve got your back.\u201d<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>3. <strong>Acknowledgement<\/strong>.\u00a0Some 86% of those surveyed said they do not feel acknowledged.\u00a0The isolated virtual environment has left them starved for recognition.\u00a0They are star athletes playing in an empty stadium. Your response:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><span style=\"color: initial;\">Your most powerful acknowledgment tool as a leader is your presence.\u00a0Show up!\u00a0In a world of cheap celebrations and easy virtual high-fives, nothing beats the feeling created when busy leaders make time to truly see and be with their people.
