{"id":2614,"date":"2021-11-03T20:13:20","date_gmt":"2021-11-03T20:13:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.realtrends.com\/blog\/2021\/11\/03\/expansion-obsessed-exp-reports-80m-in-q3-profits\/"},"modified":"2025-03-13T02:39:30","modified_gmt":"2025-03-13T02:39:30","slug":"expansion-obsessed-exp-reports-80m-in-q3-profits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.realtrends.com\/blog\/2021\/11\/03\/expansion-obsessed-exp-reports-80m-in-q3-profits\/","title":{"rendered":"Expansion-obsessed eXp reports $80M in Q3 profits"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>For the sixth straight quarter<strong>, eXp World Holdings<\/strong>, the parent company of <strong>eXp Realty<\/strong>, reported record breaking revenue, according to the company\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globenewswire.com\/news-release\/2021\/11\/03\/2326418\/0\/en\/eXp-World-Holdings-Reports-Record-Third-Quarter-2021-Revenue-of-1-1-Billion.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">earnings report<\/a> for the third quarter of 2021, released Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realtrends.com\/blog\/2021-realtrends-500-biggest-growth-ever-seen-in-history-of-rankings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cloud-based brokerage<\/a> recorded $1.1 billion of revenue in the months of July, August and September. This is a 97% increase compared to the same time period a year ago. Operating expenses also increased  100.3% year over year to $1.09 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The firm\u2019s gross profit and net income also saw large year-over-year increases of 70% and 60%, respectively. Gross profit for the quarter came in at $79.5 million, while net income was $23.8 million, including a $12.9 million income tax provision benefit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Year-over-year the number of agents and brokers increased 82% in Q3 2021 to 65,269. In addition, eXp expanded into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globenewswire.com\/news-release\/2021\/08\/31\/2289247\/0\/en\/eXp-World-Holdings-Expands-Real-Estate-Operations-Into-Germany.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">two new international markets<\/a> in the third quarter, Panama and Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur global community of real estate professionals continued to expand significantly in the third quarter, indicating our agent-centric model is increasingly resonating throughout the world,\u201d Glenn Sanford, founder, chairman and CEO of eXp World Holdings said in a written statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jeff Whitside, the CFO and chief collaboration officer of eXp World Holdings, added that the company\u2019s cloud-based model is continuing to attract a large number of top performing agents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The third quarter of 2021 saw eXp agents close 130,029 residential transaction sides, a year-over-year increase of 72%. Residential transaction volume also rose to $46.6 billion, an increase of 97% from a year ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The brokerage on Wednesday also announced that the launch of its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.housingwire.com\/articles\/exp-and-kind-plan-mortgage-jv-by-october\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">residential lending joint venture<\/a> <strong>Success Lending<\/strong> with <strong>Kind Lending, LLC<\/strong> has been approved in Colorado, Illinois and Tennessee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBuilding upon technology-driven efficiencies, community values and leveraging expert loan officers and top eXp agents, we aim to create a unique mortgage solution that provides a better homebuying experience,\u201d Sanford said in a written statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the brokerage has proved quite profitable as is, the launching of this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.housingwire.com\/articles\/exp-ceo-loves-glenn-stearns-star-power\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">joint venture<\/a> will help it diversify its portfolio and potentially become more competitive with rival brokerages like <strong>Compass<\/strong>, which has recently begun expanding into more ancillary services including the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.housingwire.com\/articles\/compass-to-acquire-yet-another-title-insurance-company\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">title insurance space<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The brokerage was the fourth-largest in the U.S. by transaction volume in 2020 with $72.2 billion, according to the RealTrends 500. That placed it right behind HomeServices of America, Compass and Realogy.
