Zillow,&nbsp;for instance, receives around 70 percent&nbsp;of&nbsp;its&nbsp;revenue from agents. Large portals are thus continually looking to build revenues by price increases and additional services while agents are looking&nbsp;for more exposure and leads to maximize return on investment.\u202f<span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Expansion of Value Chain<\/strong><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>While some portals are happy with their business model, others are actively pursuing revenue diversification, development of their value chain and mergers and acquisitions. In most developed real estate markets outside the&nbsp;United States and Canada, like the United&nbsp;Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and individual countries in Europe, there\u2019s a dominant portal and a&nbsp;No. 2 rival.&nbsp;In the U.K.,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rightmove.co.uk\/\">Rightmove<\/a> is by far the dominant portal and has not pursued much diversification while the&nbsp;No. 2&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zoopla.co.uk\/\">Zoopla<\/a> has moved into offering valuation services,&nbsp;and into the&nbsp;insurance and mortgage arena with the acquisition of a company specializing in mortgage comparison services.<span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rea-group.com\/\">The REA Group<\/a>,&nbsp;which is part of News Corp and operates the dominant portal in Australia\u2014<a href=\"http:\/\/realestate.com.au\/\">Realestate.com.au<\/a>\u2014diversified in 2015 with a product to estimate property values in Australia and have moved into the potentially&nbsp;lucrative area of home services and home repairs. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.domain.com.au\/group\/\">Domain Group<\/a>, the&nbsp;No.&nbsp;2 portal in <a href=\"shelterzoom-announces-partnership\/\">Australia <\/a>has also moved into offering a price guide, commercial listings, insurance and have acquired a stake in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oneflare.com.au\/\">Oneflare<\/a>, an online marketplace for tradespeople.<span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The REA Group also operates in more than ten countries outside of Australia offering services in Germany, France, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, and the&nbsp;Group&nbsp;acquired&nbsp;the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.iproperty.com.my\/\">&nbsp;iProperty<\/a> portal in Malaysia in 2015,&nbsp;giving it a strong presence in Asia.<span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Adding<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;Services<\/strong><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.trademe.co.nz\/\">Trade Me<\/a> is New Zealand\u2019s dominant portal and is adding services through partnerships and acquisitions,&nbsp;although the marketplace they are working in is relatively small with New Zealand\u2019s population just 4.5 million people. \u202f<a href=\"http:\/\/realestate.co.nz\/\">RealEstate.co.nz<\/a>, the&nbsp;No.&nbsp;2&nbsp;portal&nbsp;in New Zealand, is industry-owned.&nbsp;In South Africa,&nbsp;the dominant portal is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.property24.com\/\">Propery24<\/a>, part of the News24 Group.&nbsp;To&nbsp;date, Property24&nbsp;has focused on its core&nbsp;business of agent listings.&nbsp;The&nbsp;No.&nbsp;2 portal&nbsp;there&nbsp;is Private Property which is owned jointly by the real estate&nbsp;industry and a publishing house. It may&nbsp;have to add more to&nbsp;its&nbsp;value chain to challenge Property24.&nbsp;<span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In Europe, we\u2019ve also&nbsp;seen a growth of industry-owned portals,&nbsp;including<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wikicasa.it\/\"> Wikicasa<\/a> in Italy and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.funda.nl\/\">Funda <\/a>in the Netherlands amongst others. China\u2019s\u202f<a href=\"http:\/\/juwaai.com\/\">Juwai.com<\/a>&nbsp;has over 2.5 million listings. Pakistan\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zameen.com\/\">Zameen<\/a>, Japan\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/suumo.jp\/tokushu\/foreigner\/english\/\">Suumo <\/a>and the classifieds giant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mitula.us\/\">Mitula<\/a>, which operates in nearly 50 countries aggregating property listings and has&nbsp;more than ten portals in South East Asia as&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/dotproperty.com\/\">Dotproperty.com<\/a>,&nbsp;are all showing rapid growth.<span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the months to come, all portals will have to determine what their value proposition will look like,&nbsp;what investments and acquisitions to make, how to incorporate these acquisitions into their business and how and when to innovate and execute on these innovations.<span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Global property portal business model trends and expansion&nbsp; Big property portals around the world are growing rapidly and have primarily&nbsp;replaced print advertising as the way for consumers to access property listings.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":15802,"featured_media":4822,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3255],"tags":[],"coauthors":[],"class_list":["post-1961","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-archive"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v25.4 (Yoast SEO v26.8) -
