{"id":1863,"date":"2018-07-09T20:22:00","date_gmt":"2018-07-09T20:22:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.realtrends.com\/blog\/2018\/07\/09\/leandra-english-resigns\/"},"modified":"2025-03-13T02:32:42","modified_gmt":"2025-03-13T02:32:42","slug":"leandra-english-resigns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.realtrends.com\/blog\/2018\/07\/09\/leandra-english-resigns\/","title":{"rendered":"CFPB Deputy Director Leandra English Resigns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Deputy Director Leandra English, who was former CFPB Director Richard Cordray\u2019s chosen successor, announced on Friday that she will leave the agency and terminate her lawsuit challenging President Trump\u2019s appointment of Acting CFPB Director Mick Mulvaney.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>English filed her lawsuit in November 2017, claiming that President Trump lacked authority to appoint Office of Management and Budget (OMB) chief Mulvaney because the <a href=\"rollback-dodd-frank\/\">Dodd-Frank Act <\/a>specifies that the Deputy Director &#8220;shall serve as Acting Director in the absence or unavailability\u201d of the Director until a new Director is appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate.&nbsp; The Trump administration argued that the Dodd-Frank provision was superseded by the Federal Vacancies Reform Act, which gives the President the authority to fill a vacancy in a federal agency.<\/p>\n<p>A federal judge denied English\u2019s request for a preliminary injunction to remove Mulvaney in January 2018.&nbsp; English appealed to the D.C.
