Real Estate Success: The Secret Formula to Setting and Achieving Goals
Having written goals–and visualizing them–helps you focus on what’s most important!
Have you read the book, “Think and Grow Rich,” by Napoleon Hill?
My first broker gave me the book my very first day I joined the real estate office. Because just about the time I got my license, interest rates started climbing and soon hit 18% for a fixed-rate mortgage. I thought my career was finished before it even got started.
He made me memorize this quote from the book, “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.”
And I said it every day and many times a day. It was a reminder that if you believe in yourself, no matter what obstacles are thrown in your path, you can succeed.
I learned that success always comes with a price. As I set my goals, I had to be realistic about what price I was willing to pay to achieve them. I learned early on the power of written goals and visualization of those goals.
I always marvel at the opportunity in this business… And yet, 80% of salespeople fail to achieve their goals. Why? They don’t have a clear and inspiring WHY.
They don’t have clarity on what they want to achieve.
They don’t have their goals in writing.
They don’t have someone holding them accountable.
Just look around, great agents come in all shapes, all sizes and all cultures and there are no limits except those you put on yourself. After 16 years of selling, managing and training and 20 additional years of coaching the brightest and best across North America…. I know this for certain, there are many ways to succeed in this business.
Embrace your uniqueness find what you are passionate about and don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t have it all!
Why are goals so important?
They give you focus.
They motivate you.
They push you to be all you can be if you make them part of your life.
The Secret Formula to Setting and Achieving Goals
Secret 1: Know your purpose, your why, and use it to drive you forward.
Secret 2: Think big and yet make your goals realistic enough that you truly believe in them.
Secret 3: They must be in writing and you must review them every day and visualize achieving them.
Secret 4: Share them with those who support you and ask them to hold you accountable.
Secret 5: Respect the money. What would you expect from an employee if you were paying them? What it is you want to earn…be that person!
Secret 6: Hang out with people who are more successful than you.
Secret 7: We all fall off the path of our plan here and there, super salespeople quickly course correct…. immediately, not tomorrow or next week.
Secret 8: Watch your self-talk. Your negative self-talk is your worst enemy; it can easily derail your success.
Secret 9: If you discover your goals are too low or too high, adjust them and refocus.
Your goal is yours and no one else’s. A runner doesn’t win a race looking over their shoulder. Run your own race!
As Bon Jovi said, “Luck, it ain’t enough, you got to make your own breaks. Don’t bend, don’t break and don’t back down.”
It’s your life and you deserve success! It’s now or never. Take action!
