How to serve the untapped homeowner market of 8.3 million

NAHREP’s Jason Riverio will discuss demographic data at Gathering of Eagles 2023

Jason Riverio is the executive director and chief operating officer of the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals (NAHREP). He is also a speaker at Gathering of Eagles 2023. During Gathering of Eagles, Riverio will share his data expertise on the “CEO Playbook: Demographic Data as an Asset for Brokerage Leaders.”

Below, Riverio gives us an inside look into some of the details his session will cover.

RealTrends: Why are you excited to speak at Gathering of Eagles 2023?

Jason Riverio: With Hispanics projected to make up 70% of new homeowners over the next 20 years, I’m excited to represent the NAHREP at this industry-leading event.

RT: What is the benefit of attending conferences? And, how do you typically make the most of your conference experience?

JR: Especially during this slower market, it is important to attend industry conferences like Gathering of Eagles. Our industry is collaborative and gains strength through sharing best practices. I try to make the most of conferences by attending sessions where I have limited understanding. And by scheduling as many 1:1 meetings as possible.

RT: You’re hosting a CEO Playbook, “Demographic Data as an Asset for Brokerage Leaders.” Based on your own experiences, what are a few of the benefits to using demographic data?

JR: Data drives decisions. For example, four in 10 Americans now identify as non-White, according to the latest census report. The overall U.S. homeownership rate stood at 65.8% but broken down by race, whites have a 74.4% homeownership rate, Blacks are at 45.9% and Hispanics come in at 48.6%. This will all have profound implications for our industry and for our country. In addition, the more we know about demographic groups the better we will be able to create business and policy decisions. Latinos have a median age of 30, so they are in prime homeownership years. Over the past decade, Latinos accounted for over half of the nation’s population growth and over 80% of labor force growth. Plus, there are 8.3 million Latinos aged 45 and under who are mortgage ready, but aren’t homeowners.

RT: What is the one takeaway that you hope attendees learn about the ways data can elevate their business?

JR: Data — coupled with strategic business planning — will help brokerages and other real estate industry leaders stay on top of historic demographic shifts.
