January Home Sales Rise Strongly
The REAL Trends Housing Market report shows that the rate of home sales increased again in January extending the streak to six months of strong increases in unit sales. January 2012 unit sales were up 10.1 percent over the rate of sales in January 2011 and were up over 10 percent over December annualized rate of home sales.
The average price of homes sold declined 2.2 percent from a year ago and were equal to the average price in December. While the decline was also the seventh month of declining prices in the report, the rate of decline was among the least in the past several months.
The REAL Trends Housing Market report is based on submissions by brokerage firms representing over 20 percent of all new and existing home sales in the U.S and represents virtually every MSA in the country as well.
