Speak Up Too!
No More Boring E-mail Campaigns
Great Idea
Looking for a way to wow potential and current clients and customers, Nick Burrafato, the broker/owner of Florida HomeGallery in Lake Mary, Fla., was sick of the boring DRIP email campaigns that he was doing.
“After many years of doing e-mail drip campaigns, we searched for a promotion that would take advantage of technology, be cost efficient and interesting,” he says. “Then, one day I was watching a daily video report that I get from a California mortgage company, and I thought, ‘That is it! We can do a weekly video.’”
Thus was born the "Florida HomeGallery Weekly Update", a short video sent weekly to Burrafato’s 14,000-email address database. The videos are filmed in his office and feature three segments: a national real estate update, a local update and buyer/seller tips. “We also try to have a guest do a short 45 second spot, like a mortgage broker, home inspector, decorator or pool service company.”
Here are his tips for making video work for you:
1. Make it fun. Burrafato spends about an hour each week planning the video and writing a script that he loosely follows. He likes to include humor as much as possible. “Don’t make the video too long, but make it entertaining,” he says. In addition, consider the time involved. "You have to spend some time planning the video, then an additional hour or so editing it so that it flows smoothly," he says.
2. Get the right camera. “We have an inexpensive Logitech camera and an external Logitech microphone that works very well,” he says. Find a camera that's inexpensive but offers quality and good sound.
3. Be consistent. Burrafato sends his weekly video out every week on the same day. “You should be consistent in how often and when you send them out,” says Burrafato.
So far, the videos have been a huge success. “We’ve had many old leads resurface and become current clients currently looking for property,” he says. “And, not a week goes by that I don't get a call from someone who watched the video,” says Burrafato, who says the calls range from a comment about how much the person likes the video to a request for pricing estimates.
